Assignment #1, Due 30 January

• Read chapter 1 of the textbook for a review of applicable mathematics. Section 1.7.4 is optional.
• Also read chapter 2 of the textbook.
• Select and solve three of the problems 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, and 1.9. These are pencil-and-paper exercises related to the discussion of multiplication in chapter 1.

At the end of the Algorithm Correctness handout, do the following:

• Exercises 1.2 and 1.3 on page 9
• Exercise 1.5 on page 10
• Exercise 1.10 on page 12 (It uses the technique given in exercise 1.9.)
