Brief Bio
Dr. Jang is an Associate Professor of Computer and Information Science Department at the University of Mississippi (known as Ole Miss) where he leads the Heterogeneous Systems Research (HEROES) Laboratory. He joined Ole Miss after two years tenure at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) where he led efforts in designing and optimizing compilers for AMD/ATI GPUs, APUs, and upcoming HSA systems. He received his PhD degree in Computer Engineering from Northeastern University in 2010 and BS degree in Bio-Mechatronic Engineering from Sungkyunkwan University (South Korea). Before doctoral study, he also worked for Samsung Electronics where he developed system software for mobile devices.

  • Hardware architecture and compiler for parallel and heterogeneous processors
  • GPU computing (GPGPU) and CPU-GPU heterogeneous computing
  • Code optimization and automatic parallelization
  • GPGPU applications (medical imaging, machine vision, multimedia in particular)
  • Graphics pipeline
  • Reliability of emerging processors
